Why is there such a variation in prices for DPF Removal & Remaps?
Its quiet simple really. Champagne Taste Lemonade Pockets !
There are Professional tuners, who have invested in all the tools needed to complete the task and measure their results and then there are the rest who have jumped on the band wagon…
We have no doubt that when you ring around for a quote for DPF removal or Remap, the prices that are given will vary from stupidly expensive (main dealers) to the suspiciously cheap (bedroom tuners).
“The biggest mistake you could make is to base your decision on cost alone.”
You have to look behind the price…at the signals that will show you that you’re actually getting quality from professionals. Have they got a Dyno? Main dealer diagnostics to cover your vehicle? Are they involved in Motorsport? When did they start trading? All indicate passion and enthusiasm. Without these it just a money making operation!!
In recent years many general garages, mobile mechanic even used cars dealers have started offering this service and do not have the relevant experience and/or knowledge required to carry out the process properly let alone made the necessary investment in equipment to mark them out as an expert !
“Would you use a builder who didn’t have a tape measure or a doctor without a stethoscope? Then why would you have your car tuned by someone without a Dyno???”
We have 2!
Many drivers want Champagne but only have lemonade money, and many garages take advantage of this and tell you your buying champagne when it’s only lemonade….use your common sense, look behind the price and locate those important signals.
We often read reviews cusomer now got – “45 bhp and 60 ftlbs of torque and a happy customer” HOW EXACTLY DO YOU KNOW ?????
Its astounding how many people blindly belive this…why not pop it in to us and we,ll put it on our Dyno and see if you,ve got what you were told you,ve got...should be an interesting process !!
Due to the increase in demand for this service, these inexperienced operators have created a ‘price war’ that has dragged the perceived cost of DPF removal & Remaps to a very low level.
As the price has been reduced, something has to give, and this is always the quality of the software that gets used to eliminate the lights on the dashboard. We now enter the world of smoke and mirrors !
The common methods used includes ‘fault code deletion’ which just turns off a switch in the software to stop the lights coming on, or even removal of the actual bulbs or LED’s! This is NOT a fix. It’s commonly known in the trade as a BODGE!
Your engine management lights may no longer be visible however don’t be fooled…the regeneration process or fault is still operating which will lead to premature engine wear and even failure!
It doesn’t stop there either. 9 out of 10 people who have had their DPF filters removed are un aware that they have also had their Catalytic convertor removed.
(If you reading this and had your DPF removed check !!!)
Why? Because they are sold to scrap merchants. Its called theft !
MOTs may well be a real issue and because the Cats been removed are grounds for an MOT failure! You have been warned.
The cheaper DPF removals very rarely include the recalibration of important maps that control turbo pressure, torque limitation and fuelling maps. Let’s face it DPF removal is a fraction of the cost of replacement with like for like parts from a main dealer. There’s no need to scrape the bottom of the barrel use an expert and get a professional solution to your problem or upgrade.
