A very popular vehicle, a prestige vehicle however when they require replacement turbos its quiet involved !

Land Rover turbo replacement is what we do. Established in 1994 Turbopacs – small family business, now has 2 branches – one in Durham and the other in Team Valley Newcastle catering for drivers in the North East.

Land Rover Turbo fitting

Time and time again we see vehicles in with botched repairs. Why ? Well its because most general garages do very limited turbo related work – typically 1-2 turbos a year and they simply do not or cant pin point the root cause for the turbo failure. In many cases we see second hand units fitted or cheap Ebay specials which ” a friend” fitted.

The end result in many cases is a botched repair, more expense and inconvenience, all of which could be avoided if you had used a specialist like us.

And If your vehicles has broken down we can have it collected – just click on the link below

Vehicles collected so we can repair your vehicle

With Land Rover turbo issues becoming more common due to their age and popularity its not more important then ever to work with an expert in this area.

These vehicle in particular are labor intensive to say the least, with the bodies having to be lifted off of the chassis to gain access to the turbo chargers etc. This is not for the faint hearted and certainly not for the many general garages. We have seen many example of cheap fixes and they are appalling. We Turbopacs you will know that this is what we do, its our specialism.

Everyone is trying to save money however there comes a point when its simply penny pinching. We are able to supply genuine OE spec units at a fraction of the price of a main dealer unit and surely that is what its all about.

Top 5 causes of blocked / Failed DPF diesel particulate filters

Faulty EGR valves

An EGR (exhaust gas return) valve is designed to reduce exhaust emissions by recirculating or reintroducing waste exhaust gases back into a diesel engine via the inlet manifold. Think of this control mechanism as your thumb on the end of a hose pipe, They are vital in reducing nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions however they are falable and when they do wrong they can cause all manner of issues.

EGR valves reduce the available oxygen in the cylinder when te exaust gas is reintroduced to the inlet manifold, This in turn decreases combustion efficiency and increases the production of diesel particulates (fuel which has only partially combusted) known as soot. A faulty EGR valve will increase the amount of particulates produced by the engine, causing your DPF to become blocked quicker than usual.

Using the Wrong Oil

Low SAPS / Ash oils are specifically designed to be low in Sulphated Ash when it burns which some will whilst the engine is running – this additional by-product of diesel combustion causes the DPF “mesh” filter to become blocked if the wrong oil is used. If your in any doubt that you have the incorrect oil in your vehicle we suggest that your oil is immediatly changed.

Faulty / Failed fuel Injectors/pump

An injector providing too much diesel fuel into combustion chamber will generate increased levels of soot and therefore cause the DPF to block on a more frequent basis.

Faulty Turbo charger

A faulty turbo charger can cause all manner of issues on a modern turbo diesel vehicle. Ov4er or under boosting turbos will upset the air fuel mixture causing the exhaust gases to be out of sinc and generate excessive levels of soot and black smoke causing the dpf to block and creat excessive back pressure in the exhaust system as the gases cannot exit correctly. This in turn can damage the internal oil seals in the turbo charger leading to oil leaking into the exhaust and inlet further causing soot build up and yes you guessed right a blocked dpf and possibble egr issues and a large repair bill for a replacement turbo. Its important to note that once this type of turbo seal damage has taken place theres no going back. The turbo will continue to leak oil and will fail/seize in due course.

Short journeys

Lots of short trips is not what a modern turbo diesel can tolerate, Its one of the most common reasons why drivers experience dpf blockage issues. Short journeys, low speeds and the stop start nature of driving in towns and cities can make it near impossible for a dpf system to maintain itself.

Turbopacs Opens in Team Valley Gateshead

New for 2019 is the opening of Turbopacs  & Dragon Motorbikes in Team Valley Gateshead Newcastle.

We are situated opposite Sainsburys and should be easy to find with signage that can be seen from space.

Our live customer videos happened by accident , we didn’t plan it but its certainly developed incredible confidence in what we do.

Just a little back ground – when customers call in many cases about dpf related issues etc once we have completed the Hydroflow treatment the owner drives the vehicle and then we ask them for the feedback and views and if they would be willing to do a short video and its these that you’ll see on Face book, our web site and off course You Tube.

Heres one from a customer – Michael who brought his Honda bike in with poor performance and running issues. The bike was popped on the dyno and kust under 1000 litres of HHO gas was passed through the engine whilst running. Was he impressed ?

He then brought his BMW 525td in and we completed a treatment on it – just watch the move

BMW F Series OBD Tuning

Just a week after our last update, here’s an essential feature when remapping your BMW or Mini from Turbopacs =

Can you tell its been remapped ?
Can the dealer tell ?

Well the most critical issue is the CVN and Counter traceability.
CVN, which stands for Calibration Verification Number, is the calibration checksum of the file contained in the ECU. The CVN check is a way to verify if the ECU calibration is compliant with the ECU factory settings.
Even writing a Modified File – a Responsechip, the CVN will perfectly match the Original File.

The Counter indicates the number of times the ECUs Bosch EDC17 and MED17 have been tuned and the Counter is not increased.

May 2018 MOT Changes

Please take these with a pinch of salt as nothing will be finalised until the end of April and will probably still be subject to change after that date. Remember it will take your MOT tester time to get up to speed with these too!

So…

Advisories are being replaced with minor fails. These are all pre written & approved by DVSA. You will still get a pass but they will be noted on your test certificate. Manual advisories are still being worked out but may disappear completely.

Those of you who have changed your standard headlight bulbs for HID’s will now get a major fail even if the aim is correct. It has always been an offence to fit HID bulbs to halogen headlamps so the MOT is now in line with that.

Reverse lights are now part of the MOT for any car registered from 1st September 2009 (59 plate onwards). Daytime running lamps (DRL’s) & front fog lamps must work on vehicles registered from March 2018 (18 plate onwards).

Engine Management Light is now a major fail. It must come on with the ignition and then turn off when the engine is started.

Brake pad warning lights are a major fail

Handbrake with excessive travel is now a major fail. Before it would only a fail if there was no reserve travel.

Contaminated (dirty) brake fluid is a major fail. Not sure how that will work as the MOT tester isn’t allowed to remove the fluid cap.

Oil leaks (engine, gearbox etc.) can be a major failure if they are deemed large enough.

It seems they have removed the failure for tyres not being fitted according to sidewall instructions. Inner/outer or rotation incorrect.

Any modifications/removal to emissions related devices, this includes DPF’S and EGR’s is now a major fail.

Where a DPF canister has clearly been cut open and re-welded, it will now fail.

A vehicle fitted with a DPF that emits any kind of visible smoke during the metered test will now fail

Emissions limits for diesels registered on or after 1st of January 2014 have been reduced. All diesels will now need to pass the limit that was set by the manufacturer when the car was new. This can be found on the VIN plate. For example the current limit for your diesel car may be 1.50. That could change to as low as 0.30 with the new rules.

These are just some of the bigger changes to the MOT test the average motorist is likely to be affected by. There are dozens, perhaps even over 100 changes to the actual MOT test and to the way testers record tests on the MOT computer. Please remember these are all subject to change in the coming months and remember spare a thought for your MOT tester before you say…

DPF Mot Testing 2018DPF Mot testing May 2018

DPF MOT testing May 2018 are coming.

The the proposed changes to the tests that will be performed at MOT are coming into force from May 2018 with a number of quotes from the Department of Transport and DPF manufacturers…….

“We expect future changes to the MOT emissions test for diesel vehicles, due to come into force by May 2018, to make it easier to detect vehicles with failing or removed DPFs.”

DPF filters have been fitted to diesel vehicles since 2002 and currently there are 36 million vehicles on the road many of which are diesels.

The DVLA say that 1,800 cars have been caught without a DPF since 2014! A fraction of the actual number.

The issue surrounding DPF filters, their functionality, reliability, replacement costs along with the consequential damage they have caused to other components on the vehicles they are fitted too are all issues which have yet to be fully explored and debated.

We anticipate that there will be without doubt many millions of cars with dpf filters that are not functioning correctly or have been removed prior to these recent changes being announced, and predict a rather lively debate !

Predicting this, we have invested in a new hydrogen gas technology that allows us to recover blocked dpf filters whilst still installed in the vehicle – its incredible

Hydroflow allows us to convert H2O in Orto Oxyhydrogen gas a form of hydrogen, which we introduce into the vehicles combustion chamber via the induction system with approximately 1800 liters of gas being combusted over a one hour deep cleaning session.

Its completely carbon free, which makes perfect sense when removing carbon based deposits, producing a significantly cleaner and hotter “burn” than a conventional regeneration effectively creating the ultimate regeneration event, allowing the clogged soot to burn off and restoring the dpf to a functioning filter.

Since its introduction we have found the Hydroflow carbon removal process to be extremely effective in resolving DPF and EGR faults and allows us to provide a much faster and cost effective solution to maintaining the operation of a dpf filter or freeing it up once it has become blocked. You can see on a video section of this site, You Tube and also Face Book numerous LIVE customer reviews with their personal feedback following the Hydroflow DETOX treatment.

Completely blocked dpf filters can “recovered with this incredible equipment, making it invaluable to many owners when their dpfs cannot be cleared by conventional regeneration methods or dpf removal which is no longer a viable method.

Hydroflow keeps us ahead of the curve in relation to these proposed changes at MOT and now allows drivers to maintain their dpf filters and in cases where they have become blocked have them cleared, making this a fast and cost effective solution to what in many cases can be a very expensive fault to resolve.

Hydroflow Hydrogen Engine DETOX

Hydroflow

Hydroflow Durham is located at Turbopacs Ltd in Durham. It has added the Ultimate Engine Detox to its range of services with the introduction of a Hydrogen Carbon Removal system,a complete engine clean for vehicles with its HydroFlow treatment.

Hydroflow uses just water, unlike other engine cleans that rely on chemicals.

HydroFlow’s chemical free cleaning process is proven to help reduce emissions and smoke for both Petrol and Diesel vehicles and is a must have treatment for cars, vans and even motorbikes. It drastically reduces carbon deposits and costs for cleaning sessions starting at only £90 for bikes and £125 to revitalise your engine.

All vehicles, particularly diesel and high mileage ones, can suffer from carbon build-up. Signs of carbon build-up include a smoky exhaust, lumpy idle, flat spots, reduced throttle response, reduced miles per gallon (MPG) and increased emissions (often it can be the difference between an MOT pass and fail.) Dpf warning lights appearing and even reduced performance (limp mode) events. Turbo issues such as sticking wastegates and limp mode events can also appear.

The dirtier a vehicle is, the greater the effect a carbon clean can have in restoring the vehicle’s lost performance and efficiency.

Helps lower emissions & reduce smoke and In many cases, can clean EGR valves and unblock a DPF, unstick a turbo or resolve swirl flap issues!

Here at Turbopacs in Durham we can successfully delete Toyota DPF filters from your Toyota or Lexus.

From your Avensis , Auris , Rav 4 or other Toyota models to your IS220d we can help you get back on the road.

Toyota DPF filters other wise known as (DPF filters) become blocked – it’s a technology fitted to most diesel cars and it really doesn’t work. The only long term reliable solution is removal which offers a highly cost effective solution to the alternative which would be a new replacement costing in most cases well over a £1000, or cleaning your Toyota DPF filter which we have found is relatively short term solution as it becomes blocked soon after cleaning.

If your Toyota DPF does become blocked you’ll notice a limp mode which results in a lack of functionality and then the ECU attempts to clear the blockage through regeneration. Regeneration? Really! What this really means is the vehicle if successful dumps the product the DPF has collected back into the atmosphere!

The damage caused by you blocked Toyota DPF filter will spill across to other engine components, further racking up costs.

The answer IS preventative maintenance.

If you have a Toyota Diesel Particulate Filter fitted to your vehicle you WILL have issues with it at some point.

Really people sort the problem before it becomes far more involved and far far more expensive….

Today we have just had a Mazda CX5 2013 plate vehicle brought in with 31,000 miles on the clock. Twin turbo version with a blocked DPF and snapped shaft on one of the turbos! Retail price of the Turbo is £2340 plus vat! Oh and there’s the cost of the DPF etc etc…!!! I think you’ll see the point…
