Let's face it, not everyone complies with recommended maintenance guidelines set by the vehicles manufacturer. They would suggest using quality fuel and to avoid delayed servicing schedules to keep vehicles reliable. For this reason, your engine has been intentionally de-tuned by restricting the power output and responsiveness. Resulting in lower emissions (CO2), manufacturers therefore will categorise their cars into lower tax brackets. This is quite common with Turbo Diesel vehicles that are popular with fleet companies.

The Response Chips that we offer here at Turbo PACS uses the very latest technology which utilises the on board diagnostic port, also known as an OBD port. If your ECU is too old and not able to be remapped via OBD then we also have the skills to be able to chip tune your ECU giving the same results.


With the use of an external managing unit such as ours, it is possible to take the manufacturers map off your vehicle, to which it will be stored, and overwrite a performance map in its place. This is known as a "Reflash" There is no need for removing or opening of the ECU as it is all carried out through the manufacturers OBD port which makes the procedure safe and does not invalidate your warranty.

A FEW THINGS TO WATCH OUT FOR

- Performance gains-


Is it all about BHP? Although Bhp gives you an idea of the power output, it will not demonstrate the quality of the upgrade with regards to drivability.

For a driver that only drives mostly around town, is it fair that the power is at 6000 rpm? Maybe for fuel consumption but surely not for fun.

- Live Mapping-

Many companies are claiming to be different because they offer live mapping for their customers, making them some what special! this is where they will connect a laptop up to your car's diagnostic connector and drive the car while another person "live map's the car", or should i say pretends to map the car. LIVE MAPPING CAN NOT BE DONE THROUGH THE DIAGNOSTIC CONNECTOR OF ANY CAR! The data cannot be extracted at a fast enough rate to be able to carry out a live map. The only correct way is to open the vehicle's ecu and connect an emulator, so you can transfer the data from the ecu in REAL TIME. along side this certain diagnostic tools and analysers are needed like air fuel ratio meter and det detect equipment if need be.


Ok so lets say after all that a company is able to live map, who says they are any good at it? You have to remember that a HIGHLY DEVELOPED custon map is going to be miles better than a POOR live map. It takes years of experience to be able to live map successfully! Lastly somebody cannot live map modern cars 100% unless of course they have original manufacturer tooling to do so. These tools are specific to the manufacturer only, and is not possible to purchase. So dont fall for it!

- Dyno-

A dyno is certainly not needed to remap a car, all software should be developed on a dyno to start with, so for a company to say that they remap on a dyno? what does this mean? The software should all ready have been developed and tested! the only changes that one may need to make is slight changes because of software variations across the model range and you certainly do not need a dyno for this reason. If one would like to check air/fuel ratio while the engine is under load this can be done while driving on the road with the relevant test equipment connected to the vehicle. some would argue that this would be the most accurate way to test, as you can not simulate real road conditions on a dyno properly.


The other problem is people with dyno's claiming they can tune when they can't and the one's that do fiddle with readings, also it's worth mentioning that peak figures can be a bad example of the quality of a re map , one would need to also consider how the engine performs everywhere else in the rev range as your engine does not only run at 6000rpm after all.
