Lots of our customers who have a car also have bikes. About 8 years ago we started to get involved with our two wheel cousins. An engine is an engine and technologically speaking bikes are way behind cars. We started to prepare a few race bikes and then became involved in track days. The cast was set !

Over the past 8 years we have covered most aspects of bike repairs and modification. Again we wont bore you with an endless list of parts etc, save to say if there is any part that you require we can get is, from a full Micron exhaust system to fitting some new tyres. We have a dedicated tyre changing facility with laser track so no scratched rims and wheels lined up as well.

Our own Ducati 853 RS has been completely re-built and extensively improved, covering raised compression, flowed heads, machine work and lots of electronic and chassis mods which are covered in our special tuning services section.

We fit power commanders and you'll see why its the measurement part of the equation that's the really clever bit. We are able to set them up right up to advanced levels, per cylinder if you like !

Many bikers think that because their new bike is fuel injected that it somehow knows or can detect that you have fitted a full system. It doesn't in fact as fuel injected bikes are set up far more accurately from the factory, there is a far smaller range of fuelling flexibility as opposed to carbs. It means that fitting power enhancing parts, filters, exhausts etc will tip the fuelling over the edge and make it run lean (assuming the parts are any good), which in turn will create lean spots, poor response and can even melt a piston due to detonation.

ECU Remapping is now the best tuning option for the modern motorbike...think about it..being able to access the resident operating system and then make the changes to all of these as required to liberate the tuning potencial, rather than just altering the fueling has to make sense...

We have experience of suspension set ups and contacts with many specialists out there. But don't think that its only serious tuning that we get involved with...most people only want a can, or some help making the bike stop ! or handle properly and may be a service. We are still having fun with bikes and its this that matters...it generates enthusiasm which we think our customers like. Its a refreshing feature that allot of the bike world overlooks or has forgotten.

As mentioned because we work on cars and bikes, its amazing how many ideas can move from one area and visa versa. Not only can we help maintain your bike during those too short dry months but we can also help you over come any short comings you have with any aspect of its performance, and when the weather turns for the worst and your car is the preferred mode of transport we can maintain this for you also.

If this brief outline of our bike services strikes a cord with you then click on more info if there are any specific questions that you have or call us for a chat.

Tuning with Power Commander

Base Map - The Power Commander is supplied with a given (base) map stored in the microprocessor. This (base map) is typically a map that has been developed to provide an improvement for most combinations matching the map description (i.e. stock bike or performance exhaust and air filter). In general we have found that a typical stock bike has areas in the fuel curve that are far from optimal for drive-ability and performance. We could say that they are typically 70% optimized in stock condition and 60% - 65% with minor performance modifications. After installation of the Power Commander with the base map, we would expect to see 85% - 95% optimization.

Power Commander Alternate Maps -

Each Power Commander is supplied with a number of alternate maps on a CD-ROM and all the maps are available for download on our web site. You may notice that we have a map specifically for "Brand A" slip-on exhaust and another for "Brand B" slip-on exhaust. Although the difference between the two maps is likely to be very small, these difference will increase the optimization for that given combination. If you have a "Brand C" exhaust and we do not have a specific map, you should find that "Brand A" or Brand B" maps will provide a good improvement on your bike. If you have a Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP computer, you can upload alternate maps or make changes to the existing map using the Control Center software and USB cable supplied with your PC. (Detailed Software tutorials and quick reference software screen shots are available on the CD-ROM or web site). If you do not have a computer, you can change the fuel curve with the faceplate buttons. This is a simple adjustment that can move the fuel curve richer or leaner in each area of the map. (Please refer to the paper installation guide or adjustment video on the CD-ROM

How much additional power will it give my motorcycle?

There are many variables to each application. The Power Commander allows for tuning to the perfect air/fuel ratio will ensure that the engine can produce the maximum possible horsepower for that given combination. Consider that a typical street rider spends a great deal of time riding in part throttle conditions. Shown below are two graphs of a motorcycle before and after installation of the Power Commander. The top graph line shows the horsepower curve accelerating and the lower graph shows the corresponding air/fuel ratio. You can see a large horsepower increase between the two. The red curve shows a typical stock motorcycle with minor performance modifications (slip-on exhaust). The blue curve shows that same combination with the Power Commander installed and you can see that the line is nearly straight. Consequently, the rider will feel a large improvement while riding the motorcycle. It is very possible that the peak wide open throttle horsepower is unchanged. The correct air/fuel ratio number (say 12.9:1 or 13.2:1) depends upon many factors like combustion chamber design, but what we want is that figure at every point in the curve (straight line).
